The Intern Architect Process Today

The high percentage of Interns to Architects is not a new problem. In the past 10 years, the OAA has studied the issues regarding the Intern process without achieving consensus. The issue is complex, touches on the health of the profession and what it means to be an Architect. The time is right, as Associations across Canada are focused on this issue and changes can be coordinated. The OAA established the Committee on the Future of the Profession/Interns to propose solutions to this issue.

Moving the Intern Architect Process Forward

The Committee on the Future of the Profession/Interns is conducting a survey over the next three months to collect feedback from Interns about completing their IAP Experience and/or pursuing registration. The purpose of the survey is to identify the specific nature of the issues which interns are facing and to develop policy which would address these common issues, barriers and obstacles toward licensure.

It is the committee's intention to have this survey, in some situations, result in immediate changes to the benefit of the interns but we also recognize in other situations it may not result in any change whatsoever. However, in order to make convincing arguments, we need valid data, which this survey will provide.

While all information collected is confidential - we are requesting that one comment box remain open for public viewing so others can see what the issues are and follow the progress of the survey over the next three months. Your participation in this survey includes the authorization for the collection of this information and the permission for members of the committee to contact you via e-mail or telephone to confirm the content and the situation of the information provided.

Please participate in this important survey and provide us with your feedback, click on "Start Survey # 2".
